Retaining Walls

Des Moines landscaping often starts with retaining walls.

Whether you are on a landscaping budget, looking to beautify an area, or have hillside erosion problems, our landscape team can work with you to design and install many different types of retaining walls. We offer many retaining wall colors, styles, and designs to fit your style.

We can also install firepits using retaining wall block and add seat walls to make your space the perfect backyard environment.

Paver Patios

We provide and install endless types of pavers to make your driveway, sidewalk, walkway or patio stand out from the ordinary. Our landscape designers and installers can provide various styles including brick pavers, concrete pavers, natural flagstone, and decorative stone for your area. We source supplies from many Iowa landscape supply companies to provide unique Iowa outdoor products for your landscape. All of our pavers are professionally installed on top of paver base and topped with polymeric sand which prevents weeds from growing between the pavers. Let us create the perfect space for that new patio furniture, barbecue or fire pit.

Natural Landscape Edging

Installing landscape edging and borders provides a clean cut look for your yard while keeping the lawn out and the ground cover in.  Our professional landscape team provides and install over 10 different types of landscape borders including bullet edging, stone edging, concrete paver edging, and limestone edging. We have various colors and styles to fit your landscape.

Flower, Shrub, & Tree Planting

Tree Planting

Trees provide shade, foliage color, and curb appeal to your property. Let our team of landscape plant experts help you choose a tree that thrives in the Iowa climate and adds value to your landscape.  We handle local tree sourcing, planting, and staking.  Common trees we plant are oaks, maples, flowering pear, crabapple, redbud, serviceberry, and many evergreens including spruce and fir.

Shrub Planting

Whether you are looking for privacy or for that perfect pop of color,  our landscapers can help you choose and plant the perfect shrub for your space.  We can offer shrubs that offer year round interest by having a variety of bloom times, bark color, foliage color and multiple heights.  Common shrubs include hydrangea, dogwood, viburnum, ninebark, globe blue spruce, serviceberry, azalea, and lilacs.

Annual and Perennial Planting

Attract pollinators to your yard by planting a variety of annuals and perennials in your garden.  Our landscape designers source local Iowa grown annuals for your landscape and choose multiple types and colors of perennials to ensure your landscape has flowers in bloom all season long.  Common perennials include sedum, New England asters, day lilies, coneflower, black eye Susan, coral bells, iris, sage and phlox.  Common annuals include  sunpatiens, marigolds, vinca, petunia, coleus, pentas, and flowering purslane.

Container Design

Spruce up the entrance of your home or your back deck with flower containers and pots designed and installed by our horticulture team.  We source annuals from Iowa grown greenhouses and can change out colors and plants for each season. We install and design planters and pots for Christmas season, winter, spring, summer, and fall.

Garden Ground Cover Options

Mulch

Mulch is a common groundcover for Iowa landscapes.  Mulch prevents weeds and helps the soil retain moisture.  Mulching should be done annually as  mulch breaks down over time.  Mulching also adds a new pop of color to your landscape each spring.  Mulch comes in a variety of colors including natural brown, gold, red, and black.  When possible, we always recommend western red cedar mulch as the cedar repels certain insects such as termites, is the slowest to decompose, and has a great aroma.

River Rock

River rock is a great option for low maintenance landscapes.  We place polypropylene needle punched 20 year landscape fabric under all of our river rock installations.  This prevents weeds from growing while still allowing water to filter through the fabric.  We purchase Iowa river rock from local quarries in the Des Moines area. River rock is availe in multiple sizes from pea gravel to 2 inch stone.  River rock pairs great with landscape elements such as boulders and outcropping slabs.

Other Options

Other landscape groundcover options we install include crushed granite, black obsidian, gray slate, traprock, Mexican beach pebbles, and buckskin.  We are able to source a variety of stone from across the country to match specific colors and textures for your landscape.
