Sod or Seed? It Depends on the Yard
We install both, and we’ll tell you straight which one your yard calls for. Sod holds slopes that seed washes off of, and you get the yard back faster: we recommend 2 to 3 weeks off new sod before normal traffic, compared with 4 to 5 weeks for seed. Seed costs less up front and offers more variety, but it needs that longer wait and it won’t hold a steep slope while it establishes. Shade matters too. Heavy shade is hard on either one, and it changes which we recommend. If your project is tied to a patio, wall, or new construction where you want the yard finished when the build is finished, sod is usually the answer.
