Grading and Regrading

The cheapest fix is often the right one. We reshape low spots and reset the slope so water runs away from the house and off the lawn instead of pooling in it.

French Drains

A perforated pipe set in a gravel trench, wrapped to keep the clay out, carrying water underground from the wet spot to a place it can leave. Buried and out of sight, so the lawn goes right back over it.

Dry Creek Beds

A stone channel that moves runoff on the surface and looks like it belongs in the landscape. Good for yards where a lot of water needs a visible path, and for turning a washed-out swale into a feature.

Drainage Around Patios and Walls

Every paver patio and retaining wall we build is installed with proper base and drainage behind it. If an older patio or wall is holding water, we can correct it.

Rain Gardens, Dry Stream Beds and Native Plantings

Sometimes the best place for the water is in the ground, on purpose. We build rain gardens, dry stream beds and native plantings that soak up runoff instead of piping it away, and we run underground downspout extensions so roof water lands where it can drain instead of against the foundation. Des Moines and Polk County run a cost-share program for rain gardens and similar work, and we can work within it. One thing to know: those funds are first come, first served each year, so if you want to use the program, start early in the season.
